Traffic Stop Results in 50 Pound Seizure of Marijauna

Traffic Ticket the Least of the Drivers Worries


Delta Police Seize 50 Pounds of Pot in Routine Traffic StopOn Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at approximately 2:30 p.m. a Delta Police traffic officer conducting patrols in the area of 10900 blk of Kitsen Park Way observed a vehicle traveling above the posted speed.

The officer initiated a traffic stop to deal with the moving violation. On approach of the vehicle and interaction with the driver, an odor consistent with marijuana was emanating from the pick-up truck. Upon further investigation and with the assistance of a K-9 team, a large quantity of marijuana (approximately 50 pounds) was discovered in the covered box of the pick-up truck. The box of the truck had a tonneau cover in an effort to prevent detection.

The driver, and lone occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody without incident. The 30 yr old male from Surrey faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance. He was later released on a Promise to Appear compelling his court appearance at a later date. The estimated street value if sold by the pound is in excess of $100,000.
The Delta Police continue to work to keep our roadways safe and drugs off our streets.
